my husband still shakes his head every time I tell him about our Easter traditions - especially the "beating of the women" one. And the more I think about it the more am I shaking head myself. Where the heck did that come from???

Hi Tanja,

If you haven't already, you may want to read a thread on this topic on our message boards where my and other people's fears of Starbucks wiping out small cafés are dispersed.

I worked at Starbucks for 3 years and they really make a great quality coffee. But do we need that in Prague? No! The local coffeehouses already makes great espressos! I have a feeling that this news is the beginning of the end of many of the cute coffee houses that were doing just fine without Star-sucks around....To tell you the truth I am kind of amazed that it took Starbucks so long to actually "invade" Prague!

Very interesting! I looked into it and rumor has it that Klub Borat is a former name of Klub Újezd in Malá Strana. The name of Cohen's character supposedly comes from the name of the club. I had no idea!

Much as I hate to quote Mrs Thatcher, her words readily spring to mind here. Starbucks? 'NO,NO,NO!'

Hi guys, without dipping too much into the discussion here I tell just one thing - Borat is a name of a Prague Club where this guy - Sasha Cohen was coming for a while in late nineties....the Phrase Jak se mas comes from there as this is how the bartenders greeted him...from them I heard he is quite a drunkard....:)

[...] As of January 1, 2008, The Prague Public Transport Fare Increase is a reality. The Prague Public Transit Company rang in the New Year with new ticket prices. The increase did not end up being as high as was originally expected but it is still a noticeable change. A transfer ticket went up from 20 Kč to 26 Kč and a single-use ticket now costs 18 Kč instead of 14 Kč. A yearly pass is 4,750 Kč instead of the former 4,150 Kč. [...]
