Three Prague Restaurants Featured in 2006 Michelin Guide

April 9, 2006 By Jeff 3 Comments

The latest edition of the Michelin Guide Main Cities of Europe, which covers hotels and restaurants, was published last month. The guide is famous for its 1 – 2 – 3 star restaurant rating system and it also includes a rating called Bib Gourmand, which highlights “good food at moderate prices”. Prague did not have any restaurants that received stars in the 2006 Edition, but three restaurants were awarded a Bib Gourmand: Aromi and Brasserie M (new additions), and Le Terroir.

The restaurants in the guide are geared toward business travelers, so I think that in this case the term “moderate prices” simply means that the restaurants do not fall into the top price bracket. Aromi has been on my list for a while now and I think it is time for a visit.

Summer Time, Winter Weather

March 23, 2006 By Jeff Leave a Comment

On Sunday, March 26 at 2am CET, we will set our clocks forward one hour. The České Noviny website has an interesting article on the history of summer time in the Czech Republic.

With the arrival of summer time, I would certainly hope that spring is just around the corner. Officially it is here, but we still have been having temperatures that dip below freezing.

Czech Olympic Team Update

February 23, 2006 By Jeff Leave a Comment

We are now on day13 of the Olympics and here is an update on Team Czech. So far, the Czech Republic has earned two silver medals – Kateřina Neumannová in the Women’s Cross-Country Skiing 15km Pursuit, who finished just 1.9 seconds behind Kristina Smigun of Estonia, and Lukáš Bauer in the Men’s Cross-Country Skiing 15km Classical.

The Czech hockey team, which had two wins and three losses in the preliminary round, beat Slovakia (undefeated in the preliminaries) 3-1 in the quarterfinals. The Czechs will face Sweden on Friday, while Finland meets Russia in the other semifinal.
