Czech Tongue Twisters

April 30, 2010 By Jeff 2 Comments

We have a number of Czech tongue twisters on our Czech language learning site Local Lingo. We are in the process of adding audio for all of the tongue twisters and making them easy to listen to. Just press play – no software needed.

Here are a few popular tongue twisters with slow and normal speed audio.

If you would like to suggest a Czech tongue twister to include on Local Lingo, please let us know in the comments.

Click on the “play” button to hear the audio.

February 12, 2010 By Jeff Leave a Comment

The Olympic games start today in Vancouver, Canada. The Czech Republic has sent a record number of 92 athletes to participate in the games. If you plan to follow the various sporting disciplines, you may hear some Czech names mentioned. We thought we would offer an audio pronunciation of the names of some of the Czech athletes to watch out for.

Click on the “play” button to hear the name pronounced. The button for the hockey team includes audio for all the players.

The Prague Post article Vancouver 2010: Czechs send record team to Olympics provides background on the Czech team and contenders. (link no longer working)

The Czech Olympic Committee published their Czech Olympic Team media guide that lists details about all of the Czech athletes participating in the games.

Czech Roundup 11-Jan-10 – Snow Edition

January 11, 2010 By Jeff Leave a Comment

The Czech Republic is digging out after heavy snowfall around the country. Trains and flights were delayed and there were serious problems traveling by road. Border crossings with Germany and Slovakia had to be closed for a few hours for snow clearing.

Google Maps for the Czech Republic – Street View and Usability Updates

October 31, 2009 By Jeff Leave a Comment

Google Street View for the Czech Republic went live earlier this month.  Prague and some nearby cities such as Mělník and Poděbrady are included, in addition to the D1 freeway to Brno.  However, it looks like Brno is not yet available.  I have linked to the original Google announcement and show the coverage map and some selected street views. You can scroll around on the embedded street views or click for a larger version.

There were other updates to Google maps this month that affected the Czech Republic.  There were changes to the look and feel of the maps that improved the readability of such items as street names and roads.  The latest update added more businesses to the map with an icon to get  detailed information.  It looks like this data covers the country.
