Charles Bridge Reconstruction

June 28, 2008 By Jeff Leave a Comment

I meant to post this last month after visiting Charles Bridge.  Actually, I had wanted to make other posts too, but just did not get around to it.  I hope to have a chance to post more often.

The reconstruction work on Charles Bridge that started last year is expected to be completed in 2010.  Along with work to stabilize the bridge and replace cobblestones, gas lamps are going to be installed.  The work on the bridge is being done is phases, so only a small portion of the bridge is closed off at any time.  You can get an idea as to how they are doing that from the pictures below.

You can read more about the work being done by clicking on the following links:

May First at Petřín

May 1, 2008 By Dana 1 Comment

Prague’s Petřín Park is considered by many to be one of the most romantic places in the city. It is especially true on May 1st when Czechs commemorate their own equivalent of Valentine’s Day. We write briefly about May First, the Time of Love on My Czech Republic.

Below are two pictures taken today at Petřín.

Havlíčkovy Sady Restoration Work Continues

April 30, 2008 By Jeff Leave a Comment

Havlíčkovy sady is Prague’s second largest park and a great place for a walk, especially during springtime, which is unfortunately the only time of the year when the park is in bloom. The park has been going through a major restoration. A new children’s playground was installed in its upper part and it is now very popular. The Grébovka Villa was restored last year. Work is now being done on the vineyard below the villa.

You can read more about the park on our Havlíčkovy sady page.

March 12, 2008 By Jeff 2 Comments

I visited the Easter Market on Old Town Square today.  We had some rain on and off, but the market was still busy.
