We just returned from a trip to California. That’s not supposed to be an excuse for not having posted anything since January 28. We had the laptop with us, so we could have. But we were in another world and simply weren’t inspired enough to keep our Czech blog going. Apologies for the long silence.
I’ve been thinking about some of the things that stood out for me during our visit, which took place almost two and a half years after we left the U.S. and moved to the Czech Republic. It’s been interesting to realize what some of the more striking differences between the two countries are, at least in my view. I will be writing about some of them in the next few days.

Bummer. We pretty much had a Northern California winter through Saturday, and it was great. The highs were always somewhere around 10°C (50°F), with the occasional jump up to 14°C (57°F). We loved not having to bundle up, we enjoyed the green grass everywhere and the blooming tree at Petřín park, we appreciated being able to have a cup of tea and a pint of beer on an outdoor terrace of a local café. We forgot what snow was and that Czech winter air smells of burning coal. It didn’t look like the real Czech winter would ever come this season. Jeff and I sure didn’t miss it.
